In front of their home crowd Saturday night the Colorado Blizzard continued their unbeaten streak with a shutout against the Freedom to end their season series.
Former US National Indoor Team Keeper, Justin Dzuba, completed his first shutout of the season and his 5th in Blizzard team history in front of the Teams largest crowd this season.
The Blizzard found the net early, only to find the post for the next several shots before the end of the first quarter. The Freedom kept up a good defensive front, limiting the Blizzard to only one more goal before half to make the score 2-0.
As the third quarter began the Blizzard started finding more room on the rink with sharp accurate passes that led to 2 more goals while Justin Dzuba continued to keep the Freedom off the scoreboard.
The 4th Quarter started with some agressive play which lead to a '6th Foul' penalty for the Freedom and allowed the Blizzard to capitalize with a power play goal. As the 4th progressed the Freedom was further spread out around the rink trying to apply high pressure in order to get back in the game. However, the offensive gamble allowed the Blizzard to counter and get their 6th and final goal of the match.
Coach Wells, "With the great crowd we had tonight Dzuba picked a good night to have a shutout, the crowd was yelling and cheering everytime he made a save and the rest of the team fed off that energy. Overall it was a good performance by the players as we look forward to our return leg against the Dynamite next weekend. I will also be glad to have back several of our first choice players who have been away at Pro Combines trying to apply their trade at the next level. Thanks to all who came out and supported the Blizzard on Saturday night."
