Early Blizzard Scare Turned into a Wake Up Call Playing the Blues

From the opening whistle the Oskar Blues FC players were pressing the issue and put the Blizzard back on their heels as they saw Oskar jump out to a 3-1 lead at the end of the 1st qtr. At the beginning kickoff of the second qtr Oskar caught the Blizzard defenders sleeping and was able to put a ball in behind them and allowed an Oskar player to touch a ball over the Blizzard keeper to make it 4-1. Every time the Blizzard would pull one back the Blues would answer with another goal to keep the pressure on and maintain a 3 goal lead. It was obvious the Blues were ready for the League leading Blizzard as the mounted an 8-5 lead going into the 4th qtr. After a very brisk discussion between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th qtr Coach Wells challenged the Blizzard to see what they were made of and prove why they were the RMD Champions and National Runner up.

Coach Wells, " We were playing on our heels all night and when you are playing against a good side like the Oskar Blues you ca not afford to have that many giveaways, they capitalized on every errand pass and were doubling every ball which led to dribbling errors by players that know better then to dribble to much. Indoor is about quick passing and pushing the pace forward toward the goal and they were not allowing us to do that. We made some adjustments beginning the 4th qtr and began to take what they were giving us and were able to tie the game at 8-8 with 2 minutes left and then Eric Goldberg was able to get in deep and score what was to be the winning goal and allowed us to clinch the RMD. As a Coach it is nice to see what kind of Heart your players have and on this night they had to dig deep against a very good Oskar Blues FC team, they are a very good team for being a new team in the league and they will be a force to deal with every year. Can't beat a come back Win on the Road. "

The Return leg on Saturday night saw the Blizzard a bit more prepared for the Blues and jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Yves Chinje in the 1st qtr. The Blizzard looked more like the Blizzard on this night as they never looked back once they got their first goal even after allowing the Blues to tie it up at 1-1. The Blizzard were playing their game on Saturday after being taken off guard on Friday night up in Longmont and began their fast paced passing and moving as they saw the lanes open up and built a 2 goal lead at half time 3-1. The Blizzard defense showed up to this game looking like the Blizzard we all know being stingy around their goal as they shut out the Blues in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs not allowing any goals and the blizzard had built a 5-1 lead at the end of the 3rd qtr. After putting 2 more goals in and making the score 7-1 the Oskar Blues were not looking to fold as they began a barrage of offensive attacks which saw them put in 2 quick goals to make it 7-3 with 2 minutes left, the highlight of the night was when a Blues Player brought a ball down out of the air near mid field and hit a volley that found the upper corner of the goal which silenced the wild Blizzard Crowd of about 300+ fans. Even the Blizzard players were stunned and impressed with the quality of the strike. The Blizzard then shut down the blues attack and were able to run out the clock and end the game at 7-4. The Celebration then began as the Blizzard captured their 5th RMD title, 1 summer and 4 winter league titles in a row.

Coach Wells " What a way to finish the regular season with 2 quality games with a very quality opponent. We had no idea what to expect from the Blues we had not been able to get out and see them play at all this season, our schedules always conflicted. They are a quality team with a very experienced Coaching Staff, Peter has been around the game as long as I have, we used to Coach against one another  in the PDL Outdoor League. It was an exciting weekend of Indoor Soccer, I hope our many Fans had a good time watching us go Undefeated at Home this year and 3-1 on the Road. Thanks to all our fans and supporters and to our Lead Sponsor this year - Renewal By Anderson Window Company. We hope to go to Chicago in March and bring a National Championship back to the Rocky Mountain Division."
